内容記述 | In this report, the mechanical properties of some of the imported tropical woods are tested by the testing method of J. I. S., which was established in October, 1954,in place of the old J. E. S. method. The material used contains six kinds of Lauan and Apitong of Philippine and Yang and Teak of Tai. Its details are shown in Table 1. The results of the investigation are shown in Table 2,Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. The comparison of them with some of works of the former investigaters is undertaken in Table 3,and the systematic differences between the investigaters are thought to be due to the differences between their testing methods. According to these investigation, it is concluded that the mechanical strength are able to be roughly predicted by their speciffic gravity. This relation is evident in the compressive strength, bending strength, Young's modulus in bending, and hardness. Thus, Apitong, Yang, and Teak are stronger than the woods of Lauan groupes. In the absorbed energy in impact bening, shearing strength, and cleavage resistance, the relation between the strength and the speciffic gravity is rather obscure. Anatomical structures of the wood also are expected to have influence on the mechanical properties. The correspondence, such as shown between the types of failure in bending (Fig. 2) on the one hand, and the values of the absorbed energy, and bending and compressive strength on the other hand, is interpreted to be the effect of anatomical structures. Among the samples of this investigation, Red lauan shows A type, and the poorest toughness, and its strength in bending and compression in less than the average of the Lauau group. On the contrary, White lauan gives B type and the largest value of the obsorbed energy in impact bending. Almon gives D type of failure which is shown by Teak, Apitong and Yang and its speciffic strength is somewhat higher than the other three Lauan of C type, i.e. Bagtikan, Mayapis and Manggasinoro. | |||||||||||||
