Isoelectric focusing and Sephadex G-100gel filtration of the preparation indicated that the enzyme had an isoelectric point of 3.5 and a molecular weight of 42,000. The enzyme showed wide substrate specificity toward ο-dihydroxyphenols. Optimum pHs were 6.8 when pyrocatechol and D-catechin were used as substrate and 5.9 in case of 4-methylcatechol as substrate. The enzyme was stable at 60℃ for 30 min but it lost more than 95% of the activity after 30min at 80℃.
