A stem segment comprising one node with an undeveloped axillary bud was excised and cultured sterilely on the medium containing kinetin and/or NAA. Kinetin promoted the stem elongation of the axillary bud and the development of the foliage leaf in Easter lily, while in dahlia it did the development of the compound leaf. While only the foliage scale was initiated in Easter lily, in dahlia the emergence of the compound leaf was delayed by adding NAA to the medium.
