Temperatures tested were; for air 15,20,25 and 30℃, and for nutrient solution 15,20 and 25℃ in all possible combinations. The degree at which the early growth of water-cultured tomatoes were dependent on air-temperature was greater than that on nutrient solution-temperature. When judged by the characters related to the plant appearance such as stem diameter, leaf number to plant height ratio and top to root ratio in fresh weight basis, combinations of air- and nutrient solution-temperatures in the vicinity of 15℃ resulted in seedlings of short internodes and stout appearance suggestive of a high yield.
