In order to the observation of carbohydrate metabolism, we measured the CO_2 uptake by Warburg's manometer. Glucose metabolism of intact cell would not be much influenced by nonionic detergents, but inhibited by the both cationic and anionic detergents. The carbohydrate metabolism of some yeasts was varied by incubation of the intact cell in detergent solution.
