内容記述 | Hydrogen absorption, ethylene adsorption and ethylene hydrogenation have been studied on tantalum powder over the temperature range 200° to 500℃, and the pressure range 50 to 500 torr. Hydrogen absorption isotherms were similar to that of Sieverts' results, and the initial rates were linear to hydrogen pressure. Owing to its small surface area, ethylene adsorption could not be estimated directly. It was, however, deduced that the equilibrium was attained in a short while, as judged by the effect of ethylene preadsorption on the rate of hydrogen absorption. The order of introduction of gases was found to influence the rate of ethylene hydrogenation as follows : Hydrogen first > simultaneous > ethylene first. In the case of introducing hydrogen first, the initial rates were approximately first-order in ethylene, and reached the maximum value as a function of hydrogen pressure. From these results, it was deduced that the rate determining step was similar to that of reactions catalysed by palladium black, namely, the surface reaction between adsorbed by palladium black, namely, the surface reaction between adsorbed ethylene and hydrogen. On tantalum powder, however, it was suggested that there were two types of ethylene adsorption, one of which is so strong that the hydrogen absorption was retarded and would not participate in ethylene hydrogenation. Another was relatively weakadsorption and seemed to be responsible for ethylene hydrogenation. | |||||||||||||
