The results are analyzed with sorption equation. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1) The sortion isotherms for hemicelluloses show typical sigmoid curves as for wood and cellulose, and hysteresis loop is also obsrved (Fig. 2). The shape and the magnitude of the sorption isotherms do not vary greatly from species to species of original wood (Fig. 2 and 4). 2) The amounts of water vapour adsorbed per a unit weight of the hemicelluloses are much greater than those of wood with a whole range of relative humidity, and the adsorption ratio varies between 1.8 and 2.5 (Fig. 3). The hemicelluloses tend to dissolve in saturated vapour. 3) The values of parameters of the equation (1) obtained by sorption isotherms for hemicelluloses are compared with them for wood and cellulose (Table 2). The numbers of grams adsorbed on primary sorption sites per gram of sorbent (v_m) and on total sorption sites per gram of sorbent (nv_m) for hemicelluloses approximate to those numbers per gram of amorphous region of cellulose which are calculated using the values of v_m and nv_m and the ratio of amorphous/crystalline regions of cellulose.
